Kazhdan Constants of Group Extensions
We give bounds on Kazhdan constants of abelian extensions of (finite) groups. As a corollary, we improved known results of Kazhdan constants for some meta-abelian groups and for the relatively free group in the variety of p-groups of lower p-series of class 2. Furthermore, we calculate Kazhdan constants of the tame automorphism groups of the free nilpotent groups.

Let H be an infinite hyperbolic group with Kazhdan property (T ) and let κ(H,X) denote the Kazhdan constant of H with respect to a generating set X . We prove that infX κ(H,X)= 0, where the infimum is taken over all finite generating sets of H . In particular, this gives an answer to a Lubotzky question.

متن کاملKazhdan Constants and Matrix Coefficients of Sp ( n , R )
An infinitesimal Kazhdan constant of Sp (2,R) is computed. The methods used to prove this can also be employed to determine a quantitative estimate of the asymptotics of the matrix coefficients of Sp (n,R) in an elementary manner. An application of the result gives explicit Kazhdan constants for Sp (n,R), n ≥ 2.

Let G be a group with Kazhdan’s property (T), and let S be a transitive generating set (there exists a group H ⊂ Aut(G) which acts transitively on S.) In this paper we relate two definitions of the Kazhdan constant and the eigenvalue gap in this case. Applications to various random walks on groups, and the product replacement random algorithm, are also presented.
